Want to take your pottery skills to the next level? Take this class to explore a traditional pottery form: the teapot. Teapot-making combines many skill sets that are essential to the clay-worker: throwing thin, altering (pitcher spouts), throwing small (teapot spouts), handle formation (pulled, draped, slab, coiled), and lids. The teapot as a form can be interpreted many ways. Each part of the teapot may introduce a new character to the whole form. Teapots can be jaunty, whimsical, regal, or stubborn. There are many questions to ask when approaching a teapot. How will the lid fit? Where to place and spout and handle? What is the relationship between parts? Does it pour?

We will begin this class with a focus on lids. We will master two types of lidded vessel: the one-piece jar and jar with gallery. Next, we move to simple pouring vessels: the pinched oil pourer with spout, small and large pitchers, etc. Finally, we will combine these skills to design and create our own unique teapots. Students will be encouraged to sketch their visions before starting!

*All classes include 25 pounds of clay, and the glazing and firing of those 25#, a $40 value. If you can help offset this cost please add “Class Clay – Pay What You Can” to your order.

Classes also include ample access to the studio during posted open studio hours. Ceramics is an art form that benefits from practice and social time outside of class time.

Refunds will not be given within one week of the beginning of class. A $25 processing fee will be retained from any refund. If a class must be cancelled due to low enrollment, a full refund will be given.
