Clay monoprinting is a two dimensional approach to clay work. The technique is remarkably simple. No clay or printmaking experience is needed to create stunning and sophisticated clay monoprints. Even if you think you have no artistic ability, you’ll be successful using this art form.
A print is pulled or printed onto Pellon interfacing from a leather hard slab of clay that is within a frame. Sound interesting. Well it really is and quite a lot of fun. The slab is “decorated” with colored slip, clay paint, clay chalk, clay dough, and clay transfers and stenciling using a variety of methods. You can express yourself with abstraction or try an impressionistic landscape. Maybe a graphic still life or a combination of everything and anything. The four hour workshop begins with an hour demonstration and then the fun will begin. You will be provided two prepared slabs for unlimited printing and also will be given an opportunity to do a larger print. All materials will be provided. You will be amazed!
The class is being taught by fellow Meetinghouse clay artist Donna Sutherland Steele. She was introduced and inspired to do clay printing many years ago through the artist who created and perfected the method. His name was Mitch Lyons. He passed in 2018. Refunds will not be given within one week of the beginning of class. A $25 processing fee will be retained from any refund. If a class must be cancelled due to low enrollment, a full refund will be given.
